West Wimbledon Primary School

Safeguarding And Child Protection

West Wimbledon Primary School takes seriously its responsibility to protect and safeguard the welfare of children in its care. Please read the following documents carefully, to see how we put that overarching aim into practice.

The Designated Safeguarding Lead is Rosie Williamson. The school’s safeguarding governor is Anuar Oveido.  Meghan Peatey, Alison Lea and Kishani Vijay are members of the school’s safeguarding team. The online safety lead and online filtering and monitoring lead is Rosie Williamson.

Posters are displayed around the school detailing who should be contacted if there is a safeguarding concern. We also have 'child friendly' posters on display to remind the children who they can ask for help.

At West Wimbledon Primary School we have a duty to ensure arrangements are in place for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children at all times.  A copy of the code of conduct for safe practice us available from the school office.

All staff are trained to recognise the signs of abuse and understand their responsibilities when a child may be at risk of harm. We use statutory polices such as 'Keeping Children Safe in Education) to ensure our procedures are in line with current legislation.

We recognise that children with special educational needs are vulnerable to abuse.  Staff are trained to be extra aware of the need for vigilance for signs of abuse.

In line with the guidance of 'safer recruitment', the Headteacher, the Chair of Governors, the school business manager, the senior administrator and all members of the senior leadership team have completed accredited safer recruitment training. All staff, including volunteers and agency staff who have access to children in our school, have been carefully selected and screened and all have enhanced criminal records bureau check prior to commencing work.

We recognise that safeguarding against radicalisation and extremism is no different from safeguarding against any other vulnerability and all staff are trained to recognise and know when to report concerns.

West Wimbledon believes in working closely with parents and offer early help support to avoid problems or concerns escalating.  Through assemblies and PSHE lessons, children have a clear understanding of how to keep themselves safe and who to speak to if there is a problem.

At West Wimbledon Primary School all staff are expected to uphold and promote our British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

Our Child Protection and Safeguarding policy can be found on the school POLICIES page

Therefore, all visitors – including parents – going beyond the School’s reception have to sign in and have their identities checked and verified.
